Cocos nucifera je vlhkomilná palma, je to symbol exotiky. V mládí má listy srostlé, v dospělosti je má zpeřené. Tato palma je jedna z nejužitečnějších na světě. Podle indického úsloví se dá použít 999 způsoby. Její semeno, známé jako kokosový ořech, má tvrdou slupku pokrytou vlákny, díky kterým dokáže plavat na moři. Tuto palmy si můžeme vypěstovat z ořechu, který je běžně v prodeji v supermarketech. Způsobů jak docílit klíčení je mnoho a tak uvedu jeden z nich: semeno necháte den máčet v horké vodě(ne vařící!!) a poté zasadíte do květináče s pískem a odspodu vyhříváte. Kokosová palma, se u nás dožívá okolo tří let, protože když spotřebuje látky v kokosovém ořechu odumře. Může se vám ale podařit udržovat kokosovník, ale je to velmi náročné. Dorůstá až 25 metrů! připravte se, že roste velmi rychle.
Moje zkušenost: Přinutit ke klíčení kokosový ořech není tak jednoduché. Nejlepší je zakoupit si vyhřívanou podložku, kterou se bude ořech vyhřívat. Zkoušel jsem více pokusů, ale ve většině případů ořech zplesnivěl.
